Literary Analysis

This story talks about the depth of fright that an individual may feel while re-entering a kind of lifestyle that he/she has spent in the past. Krebs has just been back from the war and wants to live a very simple life. As of now, he finds the world too complex to involve himself into it. Those that used to be girls when he was leaving for the war turn into women upon his return from it. People are related to one another politically. After a tiring experience of war, all that Krebs craves for is a simple and peaceful life in which he does not have to discuss or lie about his experience in the war. Krebs wants to regain the peace of mind. Krebs is so frustrated that he finds loving and praying very complex matters and finds himself incapable of doing either of the two. The war has sapped all joy in Krebs and his soul has been sucked out of his body. Krebs finds interest in the book about the war fundamentally because he is able to recapitulate the war moments through reading the book. Krebs requires assistance in order to comprehend his experience of the war, and the book provides him with that.
